Of the approximately 5,000 total staff employed by MUV, 3,000 staffers are scientific employees. Nearly 1,000 of these scientific employees are qualified research professors. Dedicated academic research space spans over 50,000 m². Interdisciplinary core research areas have been developed, with a particular focus on translational research connecting medical-theoretical developments and clinical practice. These core research areas include: allergology, immunology and infectiology; cancer research and oncology; neurosciences; vascular medicine; basic sciences, diagnostics, and imaging; organ failure and replacement; critical care; metabolism; and musculoskeletal diseases.
The MUV research program is also characterized by its collaborative, international focus. MUV is represented in 98 collaborative European Union research projects; outside of Europe, MUV has prestigious research partners in North America (i.e., Harvard University, Johns Hopkins University, Stanford University, University of Chicago, Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center / Cornell University) and Asia.
In sum, MUV has the infrastructure and expertise to initiate and strengthen research programs in regions or institutions that are prepared to enter the global medical research and development forum.
